Biography

An academic career in andrology

Prof. Dr. Nika Akhvlediani was born in Moscow in 1976. He graduated with honours from the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy in 2001 and completed his clinical residency in its Department of Urology between 2001 and 2003.

His PhD thesis (2006) dealt with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of erectile dysfunction after transurethral prostate surgery. His Doctor of Medical Sciences thesis (2012) covered the epidemiology, risk factors, diagnosis and treatment of premature ejaculation.

At Sechenov University he became an associate professor in 2009, headed the Department of Male Reproductive Health (2011–2012) and the Department of Andrology and Genital Surgery at the Institute of Uronephrology and Human Reproductive Health (2014–2015), and became a professor of urology in 2014. From 2018 to 2022 he was a professor in the Department of Urology at the A.I. Evdokimov Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry.

He has completed clinical fellowships in genital surgery, penile prosthetics, artificial urinary sphincter implantation and reproductive microsurgery in London, the USA and Spain. He joined the editorial board of the Russian journal Urology in 2013 and runs training courses for urologists on male reproductive microsurgery and penile prosthetics.

He is a member of the Russian Society of Urology (since 2003), the European Association of Urology (since 2005) and the European and International Societies for Sexual Medicine (since 2009).
